Leeanne Hunter

My name is Leeanne Hunter – I am Wiradjuri/Yorta Yorta woman raised on Erambie Aboriginal Reserve in Cowra, Central West NSW.

I was born in Moree NSW on Gomeroi/Gamilaraay Country. I currently live and work on the Far South Coast of NSW in Batemans Bay.

My career in the arts has spanned over 35 years. My cultural connection endures through continual practice of Aboriginal contemporary fine artworks and handcrafted products. I have been painting since I was a teenager and pursued my passion for art after high school, which included working at Designer Aboriginals in Rozelle in 1986 under the mentorship of Dr. Bronwyn Bancroft.

I am a member of Boomalli Aboriginal Artists Co-operative in Sydney. I was also a member of the Aboriginal Women’s Collection who exhibited at Chrissie Cotter Gallery and Boomalli from 2005-2014.

I create elaborately painted pieces that span both cultural and commercial use. I produce commissioned pieces for specific projects such as desinging the AFL/W – GWS Giants Men’s and Women’s Indigenous Round jumpers in 2020-2022 and creating artwork for Transport for NSW’s Batemans Bay Bridge signage project in 2021.

My greatest achievements are my four children and being able to raise them with exposure to Aboriginal culture through contemporary art forms and practices. I teach, encourage, and inspire people to get involved in practicing, appreciating, and understanding Aboriginal art techniques.
