Help Boomalli create a landmark 100 meter mural celebrating 40 years, continuing our legacy of amplifying NSW Aboriginal art and artists.
Boomalli needs support to coordinate and deliver one of the largest permanent Aboriginal led murals ever created in Inner Sydney. The mural will be painted on the Ausgrid Substation at 10-18 Allen St Waterloo. The mural will transform a highly visible brick wall measuring approximately 100 metres long by 5 metres high into a landmark artwork celebrating NSW Aboriginal Art and Culture.
Founded in Chippendale in 1987, Boomalli will celebrate its 40th anniversary in 2027. This mural will be a legacy project that acknowledges Boomalli's contribution to the cultural landscape of Sydney and will showcase the diversity and talent of Boomalli artists. The mural will provide a permanent, highly visible platform for the sharing of NSW Aboriginal stories and artistic expression. The mural will be painted by 10 artists from Boomalli including experienced muralists, Kyra Kum-Sing, Dennis Golding and Joanne Cassady who will serve as mentors for the project.
Boomalli’s AusArt Day campaign is about more than creating art - it is a celebration of the 40-year legacy of Sydney’s most enduring Aboriginal art organisation and its vital contribution to Aboriginal art and culture.
Our campaign will bring 40 years of Boomalli’s history into the public realm. It will give audiences an opportunity to engage with the diversity of NSW Aboriginal art and culture through meaningful public art that centres Aboriginal artists, cultural knowledge and community leadership. The landmark 100-meter mural will connect generations, honour the artists and communities who have shaped Boomalli’s legacy, and create a lasting public celebration of NSW Aboriginal art and culture.
While we have the mural wall confirmed, Boomalli needs to raise $50k to be able to get this project off the ground. This contribution through the 12-hour AusArt Day campaign will support our artists and pay for their time and expertise to create the mural, as well as provide funds for material costs and equipment. We are also using this as a platform to build awareness and support for the project.
