Aaron Kennedy
Aaron William Kennedy is a proud Jerrinja and Djirringanj, Yuin man from the Yuin Nation. Born and raised in Sydney, NSW. In his last year at UNSW Art and Design, he is majoring in Printmaking and Painting.
Inspired by a school-based immersion program in Yulara, NT, exposure to Central Desert art is what started his journey in the arts. Aaron went back to Country, Ulladulla, NSW to learn more about his people, the Yuin people of the South Coast. He uses knowledge and observation of landscapes, artworks, and patterns, which connects to his Country. He interweaves his passion for culture with his art.
Aaron works with different art mediums with printmaking and painting being his main mediums. Aaron also works with digital art, photography, drawing and mold making. Currently, he is learning weaving and hopes to create works that bring focus to ocean pollution.
Aaron has been commissioned for various projects, notably designing the UNSW Indigenous Nationals uniform for three years in a row. A proud achievement of Aaron’s works is a video/painting, which placed second in the Jenny Burton Art Prize in 2019.
Aaron hopes to be an established artist with his works being showcased not only nationally but internationally, bringing recognition to the First Nations peoples of the South Coast, NSW and their culture and traditions.
