Leeanne Hunter
Leeanne Hunter is a contemporary Aboriginal artist raised in the Central West of New South Wales and currently living and working on the Far South Coast. Her practice spans fine art and arts-and-craft homeware, with a strong focus on acrylic painting on paper and canvas. With mentorship and exposure to many reputable artists, Hunter has developed a distinctive visual language grounded in strong colour, storytelling, and cultural expression. Her works often explore subjects of personal and communal interest, translated through bold compositions and layered narratives. In addition to studio-based painting, Hunter has undertaken public art projects incorporating alternative mediums, including cast metal and terrazzo flooring, expanding her practice into a large-scale and site-responsive works. She has honed a particular skill in commissioned work, adeptly interpreting and translating the vision of individuals and organisations into meaningful, culturally informed artworks. Hunter’s practice reflects a balance between tradition and contemporary expression, connecting place, story, and audience through vibrant visual storytelling.
