Join us for the opening night of Endangered Country curated by Nioka Lowe. The exhibition will feature work by Boomalli’s artist members. Each artist has been invited to respond to the theme of environmental destruction, loss of native species and the importance of First Nations Custodianship.
“When people are struggling just to get by, it becomes harder to stay aware of what’s happening around us. Across the continent, countless native species are now hanging by a thread. Since colonisation, an extraordinary amount of our unique wildlife has been erased. It’s estimated that more than 100 native species have already been wiped out. Once-abundant freshwater systems have been depleted and polluted through industrial agriculture and the accelerating impacts of human-driven climate change. Much of our rainforests, bush lands, and ancient ecosystems that have existed for thousands of years have been cleared, fragmented, or poisoned, with destruction still unfolding every day. It is because of this ongoing harm that we say Land Back. Custodianship for First Nations peoples is essential if this country is to heal. Knowledge, care, and a deep connection to Country are needed now more than ever.”

The opening night will include a Welcome to Country by Nadeena Dixon and performances from RIAH. We can’t wait to see you there!
