PARADISE showcases James’ extraordinary ability to tell stories through richly detailed, lifelike paintings. His works invite audiences to reflect on the beauty, strength and spirituality of Aboriginal life before colonisation, imagining the landscapes, connections and traditions of our ancestors. Each canvas is brought to life through intricate brushwork, vibrant colour palettes and remarkable attention to detail, creating works that are both visually striking and emotionally compelling.

Born in Wellington, New South Wales, and raised in the inner-Sydney communities of Newtown and Redfern, James has witnessed the changing landscape of the city while remaining deeply connected to his Aboriginal identity and cultural heritage. His lived experiences have become a powerful source of inspiration throughout his artistic career.

A self-taught artist, James first discovered his creative talent by designing tattoo artwork for friends before developing a passion for painting. His distinctive style has evolved over many years, influenced by artists including Pablo Picasso, Tom Roberts, Salvador Dalí and Albert Namatjira, while remaining uniquely his own.

James’ work is recognised for its originality and storytelling. His paintings are held in private and institutional collections and have been exhibited extensively in solo and group exhibitions across Australia and internationally. His work has also been featured in numerous commissions and publications.
